Houdini - 2011 Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc
Product Description
Tasting Notes
In the glass the 2011 Sauvignon blanc is a very pale straw colour with a slight green hue. The nose has soft kiwi fruit and exotic melon notes with a subtle underlying creamy element (from the barrel ferment component), and fresh mineral and grassy edge.
Cellaring
Smidge recommends drinking this wine to 2014, with freshly shucked oysters.
Viticulture
2011 was a challenging vintage with below average temperatures and unusually high rainfall making for later ripening and flavour development. Harvested on the same night as the Smidge Wines Cabernet in McLaren Vale, the 2011 Houdini Sauvignon Blanc was picked from the Christmas Hill Vineyard in Kuitpo in immaculate condition, and is arguably one of the best Sauvignon Blanc vineyards in the region.
Vinification & Maturation
This wine was produced from fruit that was pressed lightly, with the free run only being used. The juice components were then settled before separately being cold fermented in stainless steel with neutral yeasts. This year, for the first time a small portion (13%) was also barrel fermented. All parcels were blended, fined and filtered prior to being bottled.
